The 2012 Hertz British Grand Prix kicked off with a special MotoGP™ Olympics in London today as the city starts to warm up for hosting the Olympic Games this summer.

The seven British riders of the World Championship competed against each other by category, at a promotional event held at the Sky Bar Westfield in front of the spectacular Olympic stadium in the capital.

The riders tried their hands at classic British pub games, with MotoGP pair Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and James Ellison (Paul Bird Motorsport) taking the bronze medal behind Moto3´s Danny Kent (Red Bull Ajo KTM) and Danny Webb (Mahindra Racing) who took silver. Moto2 trio of Scott Redding (Marc VDS Racing), Bradley Smith (Tech 3 Racing) and Gino Rea (Federal Oil Gresini Moto2) won each of the rounds of darts, flipping the beer mat and navigating their way around an electric buzzer map of the Silverstone circuit.
Moto3 wildcard rider John McPhee joined them for photo opportunities against the Olympic Park skyline, with a London Beefeater and with the Olympic mascots. Fraser Rogers, also competing as a wildcard this weekend, was unable to attend due to sitting his GSCE exam.
Expectations are high for Crutchlow in his home GP after an impressive start to the 2012 season. The 26 year old was not able to start the race last year after a crash in Qualifying left him with a broken collarbone, but this time arrives at Silverstone off the back of the best start to a Grand Prix season for a British rider since 1987. British team Paul Bird Motorsport will be aiming for another best CRT finish with Ellison, who took the best result so for a Claiming Rules Team in Le Mans two rounds ago.
